Thought 259: The Continuing Story of Cassandra

In Greek mythology, Cassandra was a prophetess who predicted the downfall of Troy at the hands of the Achaeans but was ridiculed and laughed at by her countrymen for sharing her vision.

I cannot help thinking of this myth when evaluating the polemics, controversy, vilification around Hannah Arendt's report on the banality of evil, Eichmann in Jerusalem, not to mention the character assassinations that were made against her person.

Like Cassandra's prophecy to the Trojans, that book was indeed full of dark truth that met with animosity and ridicule.
